Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Mi Oaxaqueña Authentic Mexican Food, where the heart of Oaxacan cuisine meets the warm hospitality of Doraville, Georgia. Nestled in a cozy strip mall at 3662 Shallowford Rd Suite B, this hidden gem invites you to indulge in a vibrant array of traditional Mexican dishes that speak to the soul of culinary authenticity.

As a food reviewer for Menustic, I can confidently say that Mi Oaxaqueña excels in delivering both flavor and freshness. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by the aromatic blend of spices and the lively ambiance that instantly transports you to the bustling streets of Oaxaca. The menu offers an impressive selection of delectable platillos— selections that showcase the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Not to be missed are the Mojarra Costeña, a whole fried tilapia adorned with succulent shrimp, and the Camarones a la Diabla, featuring perfectly spiced shrimp that dances on the palate. For those desiring something heartwarming, the Caldos Mi Oaxaqueña— the 7 Seas broth— delivers a seafood experience that is both bold and comforting. This isn’t just a meal; it’s a celebration of culture and tradition served in a bowl.

Customer reviews echo the sentiments of satisfaction. Brooke Robinson, who celebrated her birthday, found the service prompt and the atmosphere vibrant, making it a perfect spot for families. Meanwhile, Steve Fambro discovered his go-to carne asada in an unassuming setting, remarking that each bite of his handmade tortillas was a testament to the authenticity of the cuisine. Even those with dietary restrictions, like Katherine Suender and her group, found the owner’s attentiveness and care reassuring, proving that Mi Oaxaqueña goes above and beyond to cater to all diners.

Whether you crave a hearty Filete a la Plancha or the rich flavors of a Tlayuda de Chorizo, each dish is prepared with an eye for detail and a passion for quality. The blend of spices offers an authentic taste that transports you straight to Mexico. Delightful sides of homemade salsas and crispy chips complement your meal, enhancing the entire dining experience.

In conclusion, Mi Oaxaqueña Authentic Mexican Food is not just another Mexican restaurant; it is a culinary voyage into the heart of Oaxaca. With quick service and generous portions, it’s ideal for casual dining. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Doraville, make sure to pay a visit for an unforgettable meal that satisfies not just your hunger but also your spirit. I know I’ll be returning for another taste of their tantalizing offerings.

I spent my birthday dinner here with my husband and baby and we all had a time. We were originally going somewhere else but the wait time was entirely too long. We walked in and were immediately seated. Checked out the menu, placed our order and the food arrived within 7-10 minutes. The service was quick and the food was delicious! My husband and I both had a drinks and were feeling the vibes! Must check out! I can see this being our go-to place in the future!

Not from the area, I Googled 'carne asada' and this place popped up. It is an unassuming location in a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. This place is as authentic as it gets. As the only gringo inside the restaurant, this was a sign that this place was legit, and it did not disappoint. I had the Carne Asada Sope which is layered with a richly cooked refried beans, Carne Asada, lettuce, sour cream, and then also a Carnitas taco, which was sublime. The tortillas and sopes appeared to be handmade, and the meal took a few minutes to prepare, giving me the impression that everything was fresh. It was outstanding on every account. The music may be a little loud by some people standards, but everyone inside the restaurant loved it. Next time I'm in Dorville, this is where I'm going. Please check them out, you will not be disappointed.

Food is pretty good. It satisfied my cravings for a tlayudas. But, it felt flat on flavor. I’m sure with a bit more flavor on the bean paste, this can easily improve it. But, people should still try them as you can tell the food is freshly prepared. The salsas were spicy and flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly. I will definitely be back here when I’m in the area to try the mole.

The food was great, and the owner was so nice! He made sure the food was safe regarding our allergies. There were seven people in our group and five of us had allergies. These are our allergies: gluten, soy, shellfish, and pork. This restaurant specializes in food from Oaxaca, Mexico.

This is my favorite casual Mexican spot in Atlanta. I’ve tried a few things and have always enjoyed everything. Pictured here are the shrimp fajitas and fried fish combo. Everything is amazing and comes out quick! Great portions and they have delicious chips and salsa as well. Highly recommend!

Service here was excellent. I came for Sunday dinner and they had live music which was nice. They give you chips and salsa when you sit down but they aren’t the best (lacking flavor), however don’t let that deter you. The hot sauces the provide are amazing (especially if you like your food very spicy). The agua frescas are made in house and the Pina (pineapple) was excellent and not too sweet. The chicken mole tamale was one I’ve never had, but the chicken was tender, juicy, and the mole was very flavorful. A must to order is the Torta. One of the best I had and the steak was tender, with very soft bread and melty cheese. The fried tilapia was also a fan favorite, the fish came out crispy with lots of sides and fresh tortillas. Their main seller, the tlayudas were huge. I tried the chorizo version and it was cooked well where the chorizo had moisture (it’s hard to find chorizo that isn’t overcooked). I highly recommend this place, step away from basic Tex mex and come enjoy authentic Oaxaquena food at an affordable price.

Best tacos I’ve had in Atlanta. Handmade corn tortillas. You know it’s good when they don’t ask if you want corn or flour… Can‘t wait to try the tlayuda next time! Oh and ask for the crickets!

Was in the area for my lunch break came in & tried the barria tacos they were absolutely delicious.. stuffed just right nice size & flavorful.. affordable prices & good customer service definitely enjoyed my lunch here
